Farming and Conservation
Billow Farm has changed so much during the past 9 years. With a change towards
conservation as well as normal farming, we are finding we can work with the wildlife around us. By creating margins as well as game cover crops at the edge of fields and in other parts of the farm an 8 acre game cover crop for all birds including winter seed eating birds.
With the help of the Barn Owl centre in Gloucester we have nesting Barn Owls as well as Tawny and Little Owls. All this has been achived by creating the right habitat and the
managment of it.
2008 saw not just the rewards of this project but with the help from Haydn Jones a close
personal friend we created our own Partridge project. Most people around us said it would fail, however it is going exteemly well, in 2009 we recorded two pairs at different ends of the farm and we hope to record more in 2010.
Simon from Billow Farm was delighted to receive 'The Peoples Trust for Endangered Species Hedgerows for Dormice' award for 2010.
